About Tides Counseling
Coping with grief, chronic illness, or cancer can feel overwhelming—but you don’t have to face it alone. My name is Kristen Breault and I am a licensed clinical social worker specializing in grief and loss counseling, chronic illness support, and oncology counseling for individuals in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.
I help clients work through loss, ease emotional pain, and rebuild meaning after major life changes. Together, we create a safe, supportive space for healing and reflection
Whether you’re grieving a loved one, adjusting to a new diagnosis, or caring for someone, I am here to help you find strength, comfort, and hope. Together, we will work toward finding sense of peace and purpose in your “new normal.”

My Approach
I have a deep understanding of the emotional landscape surrounding cancer, chronic illness, and grief. My style is often described as warm and compassionate, and you can expect a supportive, judgment-free space grounded in validation, new perspectives, and steady support. I also believe that humor has a meaningful place in therapy when the moment is right, and I bring full presence to every session.
I have personally and professionally experienced the healing that comes from being truly “seen” during times of struggle. My hope is that clients feel comfort in knowing their challenges are valid—and find a renewed sense of hope through our work together.
How I Can Support You

Virtual Counseling
At this time services are exclusively virtual. I am licensed in Maine, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire and can provide online therapy to individuals in those three states. Clients can join from the comfort of their own home (or work place, or car - so long as it's safe and private, anything goes!) Sessions are held over video using a secure, HIPAA-compliant client portal.

Support Groups
I love offering group support for folks to find solace and support among others who understand the journey. Stay tuned for group offerings!

Compassionate cancer counseling for individuals and caregivers navigating the emotional journey of cancer—from diagnosis through treatment and survivorship. Support for adults of all ages, with a particular specialty in working with young adults (18–45).
Chronic Illness
Chronic Illness counseling for individuals and caregivers navigating life with chronic illness, providing support, understanding, and tools to cope with the emotional and practical challenges of long-term health conditions.
Grief & Loss
Gentle, supportive grief counseling for those mourning the loss of a loved one, a pet, or a life chapter, helping clients navigate their grief and move towards healing and connection. Also offering support to individuals and loved ones navigating the emotional and spiritual challenges of end-of-life.

Offering A Way Forward
Feelings of loneliness and isolation are common when navigating illness, grief, or major life changes – but you don’t have to go through this alone. Finding a therapist you feel comfortable with is an important part of the healing process. I look forward to connecting with you to see if we’re the right fit to work together.

Yes! I offer a free 15-minute consultation where we can connect, discuss what’s bringing you to counseling, and answer any questions you might have. Finding the right fit is very important, and if it seems I’m not the best match for your needs, I’m happy to provide referrals to other qualified therapists.
The length and frequency of therapy vary by person. Some clients find short-term support helpful for an acute loss, while others benefit from ongoing sessions to process deeper emotions over time. We typically begin with weekly 50-minute sessions, with the frequency shifting over time and in response to the ebbs and flows of your experience. Together, we’ll collaborate to find a pace that fits your needs and schedule.
